Eight Alive: The 2026 Division Series Storylines So Far
The Wild Card dust has settled — the Astros, Red Sox, Cubs and Phillies are already golfing — and the 2026 Division Series is delivering exactly the chaos October promised. A rookie walk-off in Milwaukee. The Dodgers punched in the mouth by Atlanta. The Yankees outscored 1-0 by Tampa Bay. Half of these four series will be over by Thursday night. Here is where every matchup stands, and the jersey to ride with.
How We Got Here
The Wild Card round was a sweep factory: the White Sox dismissively brushed aside Houston, the Yankees hammered Boston 9-0 and 9-2 — the largest run differential of any series in the current Wild Card format — and the Padres blanked the Cubs. Only the Braves-Phillies series went the distance, Atlanta holding serve at Truist Park. Then the Division Series opened Saturday and the upsets started immediately: Tampa Bay edged New York 1-0, the White Sox shut out Cleveland 3-0, and Milwaukee — winners of a franchise-record 103 games — needed a Jackson Chourio walk-off off Mason Miller to take Game 2 and a 2-0 series lead over San Diego.
The Series State of Play
In the National League, the Brewers lead the Padres 2-0 with Game 3 in San Diego on Tuesday night, while the Braves answered their Game 1 loss to Los Angeles with a pitching clinic to even that series 1-1. In the American League, both the Rays (over the Yankees) and White Sox (over the Guardians) took 1-0 leads, with Game 2s on Monday night. Every division series is best-of-five, 2-2-1 format.
If closers are needed, the NLCS opens Sunday, October 11 on FOX, the ALCS starts Monday, October 12, and the World Series begins Friday, October 23 — with a potential Game 7 landing on Halloween.
The Jerseys of the Eight
Aaron Judge
The captain's pinstripes, now tasked with answering a 1-0 ALDS deficit. Bronx October baseball has never needed its No. 99 more.
Shohei Ohtani
Atlanta just evened it. The three-peat chase runs through the two-way superstar, whether he is dealing on the mound or leading off.
Jackson Chourio
The 21-year-old walked off Mason Miller to put Milwaukee up 2-0. The Brewers' 103-win season suddenly has a signature October swing.
Fernando Tatis Jr.
San Diego is down 2-0 and out of slack. Petco Park on Tuesday is as close to a must-win as October 6 gets.
Hank Aaron
Atlanta evened the Dodgers series without Chris Sale. The Hammer's City Connect is the shirt for a fanbase that just got its belief back.
Junior Caminero
Tampa Bay's third baseman leads the Rays into Yankee Stadium up 1-0 — the small-market heavyweight that keeps crashing the party.
Jose Ramirez
Cleveland needs its engine. Down 1-0 to a White Sox team playing with house money, the Guardians' season runs through No. 11.
Luis Robert Jr.
The White Sox — yes, these White Sox — swept Houston and shut out Cleveland in Game 1. Luis Robert Jr. is October's biggest surprise plotline.
